The art of speculative software

We spend an average of 7.6 hours a day looking at software—but how much of it is truly well-designed? Boris Müller, professor of interaction design, argues that software is the most dominant medium of our time, yet most of it lacks creativity and vision. In this thought-provoking talk, he challenges conventional UX paradigms and introduces “speculative software”—a bold new way of designing digital experiences that push the boundaries of interaction. Through a series of innovative student projects, he explores the future of software as a cultural and artistic medium rather than just a tool. It’s time to rethink software—not just as code, but as an unexplored design landscape waiting to be discovered.
